MUMC, NWN, & the Raphael Eye Organization Collaborate for Glaucoma Awareness
By MUBS Communications Dept., 2024
On January 22, 2024, the National Wellness Network (NWN), in collaboration with the Raphael Eye Organization, organized the Glaucoma Awareness event at the Modern University Medical Care (MUMC) in Semkanieh. The event aimed to raise awareness regarding glaucoma, an eye condition that silently affects vision. The event was held in recognition of World Glaucoma Awareness Month, making it an excellent opportunity to educate the community about this ailment.
The event featured a seminar by ophthalmologist Dr. Marwan Atallah, who provided valuable insights into the impact of glaucoma on individuals. Dr. Atallah discussed the diagnosis, treatment, and effective management of this condition. Additionally, attendees were moved by the inspiring story of the Raphael Eye Organization, which centers around Raphael, a courageous young boy battling glaucoma since birth. Raphael's mother shared their journey, highlighting the organization's mission to provide support and resources for those affected by glaucoma. As a demonstration of their commitment, the organization offered free glaucoma eye drops to those in need. Moreover, Dr. Atallah and Laura Ajab, Operations Manager and Optometrist at MUMC, offered an intraocular pressure screening to attendees above 50 to detect potential glaucoma cases and encourage early intervention.
Overall, events such as these play a pivotal role in raising awareness about the silent threat of glaucoma. They ensure that individuals have the necessary knowledge and resources to protect their vision. By actively engaging with the community and collaborating with organizations that are dedicated to eye health, we can work together to reduce the impact of this disease and improve the quality of life for those affected by it.
